Facebook Home for android updates a feature that finally allows device owners to organize their applications in folders. The new tool was rolled out Monday through a Facebook for Android update.

Facebook Home is a suite of social-networking software that replaces the home and lock screens on select Android devices. With folder support, smartphone owners can drag one app on top of another to start a folder. Folders can be named, moved, and added to a person’s application drawer for even faster access.

 The update also includes features for users of the regular Facebook app. News Feed stories can now easily be shared through private messages, and the app can now be stored on external SD media rather than being limited to your phone or tablet’s built-in memory.

Those who’ve replaced Android’s default launcher with Facebook’s social-centric alternative can download the latest update from Google Play now.

Having just begun to test its luck with online gambling sites, The social gaming company Zynga is now said to be hedging its bets with real-money gambling apps.

Zynga is said to be launching ZyngaPlusPoker and ZyngaPlusCasino apps that will be available on Facebook in the U.K., according to sources. These apps will supposedly be accessible on desktop computers first and later will come to mobile. There’s no words from company when the apps will launch in the U.K.

The struggling gaming company officially launched its U.K. gambling sites in April. It has started out with two gambling brands, ZyngaPlusPoker and ZyngaPlusCasino, which host more than 160 games where players can use real money. This endeavor was a partnership between Zynga and the U.K.-based poker company Bwin.Party Digital Entertainment.

While these games will only be available in the U.K. to start, Zynga has said that it also has big plans to bring gambling games to the U.S.

In another attempt to increase its current 1.1 billion user base even further, for the past two years Facebook has been quietly working on a lighter version to be deployed in developing countries such as India, according to sources.

The initiative is called Facebook for Every Phone, as many of users come from the poorest regions of the world, and pay little to nothing for downloading photos and access to news streams. Data usage is to be subsidized by both mobile phone carriers and manufacturers directly, and Facebook has only begun selling ads in this segment.

The reason for this is because there users in regions such as India who simply cannot afford high-end devices such as an iPhone, nor can they afford or subscribe to hefty monthly data plans either. As for current users, they could potentially save costs by downloading the new software from Facebook for this initiative too. As for subscription base and usage itself, compared to other Western regions, Facebook is still strong and popular in India.

In terms of generating revenues from ads, obviously Facebook’s ads would be determined by region and demographics, and in turn, this could generate interest from Indian businesses and companies who had never thought about advertising with Facebook to begin with.

Truecaller users can now access Truecaller even easier to access via its Facebook app without having to install the app on their phones. With the Facebook app one can enter phone numbers and get the user’s name easily. The app also has the concept of “True” score that depends on the number of friends one has who use Truecaller.

The app has become immensely popular in India especially with the surge of telemarketing calls and it now tells users whether an incoming call is a telemarketing call, which is marked as spam. Truecaller is a reverse number lookup directory that has been crowdsourced by using the phonebook of people who download the app.

However, Truecaller has also raised privacy related concerns as many users don’t realize their contact details are now a part of a global directory without their consent as their details were taken from someone else’s phonebook. Users now also have the option of name lookup where they can decide their level of privacy and select whether they want to share their contact details on a case-by-case basis. The app sends them a request every time someone asks for their contact details.

Truecaller was also in the news recently when its website was hacked by the Syrian Electronic Army but the company maintains no information was lost in the process.

Tips for handling hashtags

First, adding a hashtag does not affect the privacy of your post. If your privacy settings are set to Friends, for example, only your friends can view it. Similarly, if your friends search for a hashtag that you’ve used in the past, your post will appear only to them and no one else will see it in search results, Facebook says.

Second, if you use a hashtag in a post you publish and you want it to be searchable to everyone, remember that your most-recent privacy setting is the one Facebook will default to for subsequent posts, unless you change it back.

For example, say your privacy settings are “Friends Only.” You decide to change the privacy setting for one particular post to “Public.” Your subsequent posts will be public unless you change it back to “Friends Only.”

Graph Search is a search feature introduced by facebook in march 2013.It described as more of semantic search based on natural languague queries rather than keywords.

                     The Algorithm scans the data available in a user's network and show relevant result based on intended meaning. The feature was developed under the guidence of ex-google employees Lars Rasmussen and Tom stocky.The maximum length for a search query is 122characters right now.

Registered users can create profiles,upload photos and video,chat,send messages etc.It was originally created only for Harvard Students then gradually grew to include other colleges and finally today anyone over the age of 13.It is available in 37 language.The most popular feature is the wall which is like a virtual bulletin board.Since May 2007 facebook opened its developer's platform to let third party developers build applications and widgets.Once approved these could be distributed and publically used. Facebook offers a range of privacy settings to its users,but of course the site keeps getting a lot of flak from privacy advocates from time to time.A little known fact about the facebook homepage is that the before 2007 it contained Al pacino's face which was dubbed 'the Facebook Guy'.
