WhatsApp crossed 300M active users, Updates voice messaging with one-press record-and-send feature

The mobile messaging smash WhatsApp, has surpassed 300 million monthly active users, up from 250 million active users in less than two months. It includes more than 20 million active users each in Germany, Mexico, India and Spain.
WhatsApp makes a cross-platform messaging service that works across iPhone, Android, BlackBerry, Windows Phone, and Symbian devices, and has gained popularity among younger users as a cheap alternative to texting.
WhatsApp has made its existing experience even easier with a new push-to-talk voice messaging feature that lets you record and send voice memos with one press of the mic icon.
With the updated WhatsApp, a user pushes to record a message rather than type one. Members simply tap and hold the microphone icon to record a message that sends on release of the button, or they can slide their finger to the left to cancel the recording.
There’s no length limit for the time spent recording, and the volume automatically switches from speaker when held at arm’s length to soft when held next to an ear. There’s also a blue microphone illustration that indicates when a message has been played.  The new feature is being rolled out to all users on all platforms within the next 24 hours.
